Arne Slot has admitted he doesn’t know whether Joe Gomez will train in the next few days as Liverpool’s injury problems in defense continue to pile up.
Gomez was forced off during the first half of the Reds’ 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth. The England international collided with goalkeeper Alisson Becker as he tried to prevent Evanilson from scoring the Cherries’ opening goal following a mistake from Virgil van Dijk.
Having initially looked as though he might carry on following treatment, Gomez then indicated he couldn’t continue, with Liverpool reduced to 10 men as Bournemouth doubled its lead before Wataru Endo was eventually introduced - nine minutes after the hosts’ first goal.

Slot has now given an update on Gomez’s condition, with the Liverpool manager's assessment not sounding too promising ahead of Wednesday’s game against Qarabag in the Champions League.
“Joe got a knock from Ali. His knee went into… I think it was bone on bone,” Slot said.
“He was just not able to continue and Ali had quite a swelling in his knee. I don't know if Joe is going to train in two or three days, that is difficult for me to say, but it was clear he could not go on today.”

Gomez’s injury provides Liverpool with yet another headache in defense.
The Reds were again without Ibrahima Konate at Bournemouth, with the French international still away following the death of his father.
With both Giovanni Leoni and Conor Bradley out for the rest of the season, options are severely limited at the back, which will raise further questions over Andy Robertson’s potential transfer to Tottenham.
The Scotland international came on at half-time on Saturday, and was greeted enthusiastically by the traveling Liverpool supporters after it emerged on Friday that talks had taken place over a move to north London.

With just over a week remaining in the January transfer window, Liverpool will face more pressure to bolster its defense, although Slot indicated before Saturday’s game that there are no plans to make any major signings.
“Yeah, that’s what I expect,” Slot responded when asked whether his squad will remain as it is.
“But, as I always say, if there’s an opportunity in the market, or if we think we can strengthen the squad, then this club will always try to do so, but at this moment in time, I expect it to stay mainly the same.”
