The Detroit Pistons have the best record in the Eastern Conference
The Detroit Pistons have had an impressive start to the season. Detroit is currently the top team in the Eastern Conference and have become serious contenders to make a deep run in the playoffs.
The Pistons have played well together as a team and have laid a solid foundation this season. With the NBA trade deadline approaching, there are a few players out there that could be a solid fit for Detroit. Kevin O’Connor, who is an NBA Senior Analyst for Yahoo! Sports, named five potential trade targets for the Pistons. Of those five, Klay Thompson was mentioned.
The other four players that O’Connor named were Michael Porter Jr., Jaren Jackson Jr., Trey Murphy III and Ayo Dosunmo. After the video of O’Connor naming the potential trade targets, there was a focus centered around Thompson by fans across social media.

Thompson would be a good fit for the Pistons. He would be another high-level shooter who can knock down the three from anywhere on the court.
“Having another guy that adds that spacing threat could be very very important for Detroit,” O’Connor said.
4-Time Champ Having a Productive Season With Dallas
Thompson has been a productive player during his time with the Dallas Mavericks. He’s averaging 11.9 points and 2.5 rebounds per game through 42 games this season. Thompson has embraced more of a reserve role this season, primarily coming off the bench.
In his first season with the Mavericks, Thompson started in 72 games and averaged 14 points per game and shot 39 percent from three. While he’s not putting up the numbers he once did during his time with the Golden State Warriors, Thompson still provides value when he’s on the court. The way he can knock down a three at any time should not go unnoticed and he’s still one of the best three-point shooters in the game today.
Earlier this month, Thompson had his best performance of the season against the Utah Jazz. He finished the game with a season-high 26 points while knocking down six three-pointers. Off the bench, Thompson brings that energy off the bench that is needed and came make an impact on offense and defense.
Is Klay Thompson a Good Fit For Detroit?
Thompson knows a thing or two when it comes to winning. He was a part of four championships with the Golden State Warriors and was a key contributor on those teams. Detroit already has a high-level shooter in Duncan Robinson and with the addition of Thompson, the Pistons would be even more dangerous behind the three-point line.
Thompson could come off the bench and provide key minutes for Detroit and he could start a few games as well. He’ll add to the list of veterans on the Pistons’ roster and he’ll bring that championship experience and mindset as well.
While the trade may not be likely, the idea of having a player like Thompson join Detroit will be a significant boost for the Pistons. Detroit is a good team with the roster they have now and with someone like Thompson, they would be that much better.
