The Dallas coach acknowledges the business of basketball and wishes Doncic the best of luck in his new chapter.
One week away from the official first anniversary of Luka Doncic's stunning trade exit to join the Los Angeles Lakers, Jason Kidd kept it straightforward for both the Slovenian superstar and the Dallas Mavericks.

Regardless of how everyone will still talk about it, the Mavs head coach insisted that both sides already moved on from what happened.
“I think it’s one year and next year will be two years. After that it’ll be three. And we’ll just keep counting. Luka has moved on and we’ve moved on," Kidd told reporters ahead of another meeting with Doncic in Dallas on Sunday. "So that’s the way.
"He’s played extremely well, leads the league in scoring. He has his team in the hunt, and so for that we wish him the best. But that’s the business of basketball.”
It was a move that completely changed the league's landscape. Blindsided by general manager Nico Harrison's decision, Doncic didn't imagine leaving Dallas as he just led the Mavericks to the NBA Finals just a year before.
The trade departure of Doncic sparked backlash across the league, especially among the Mavericks fanbase who performed rallies for the rest of the 2024-25 season and vehemently called the dismissal of Harrison.
