3X Reigning Dunk Contest Champ Makes His Decision for 2026

Mac McClung

Well folks, it’s that time of the year. With the NBA All-Star Weekend just three weeks away, decisions on who will be partaking in all of the events are going to be made. The All-Star Game starters were announced last Monday, getting things started.

Friday night always features the Rising Stars challenge, which has undergone a few different transformations. This event has long been preceded by the Celebrity Game, where pop culture meets basketball.

All-Star Saturday usually makes the headlines, with the Three-Point Shootout, Skills Challenge, and Dunk Contest.

Speaking of, the 3X reigning Slam Dunk contest champion announced this weekend that he has decided on whether or not to compete in the 2026 contest.

Mac McClung has been wowing judges, fans, and fellow players for three straight years. But unfortunately, we will not get to see him this time.

Mac McClung Sitting Out 2026 Dunk Contest

The dream of a Mac McClung 4-peat is officially dead, as he said in a video with social media user @TeamVkTry that he will not be running it back.

The first appearance for the high-flyer came as a bit of a surprise. McClung hadn’t had much success in the NBA as a player, but being known for his dunking ability, he was given a chance. After that first title, he joined again in 2024. Once more he came back and won it all, and decided to go for the 3-peat.

However, it appears that things are going to be ending at three. Endless hype and excitement have come from all of McClung’s dunks. All of those magnificent dunks from the 2025 contest can be seen in the video below. Because there is no such thing as watching them too many times. This event had been down in popularity, until McClung came and made it the main thing again.

Hold the phone, though. Just because he won’t be doing the dunk contest, doesn’t mean McClung didn’t prepare as if he was going to. In the above video with @TeamVktry, he said he would show his interviewer the tape of what he would have done when the contest was over.

10 PM ET on February 14, the tape of potential McClung contest dunks are going to release. When the actual contest ends, there will be even more new jams to take a peak at. Good on the 3X champ for doing that.

What Mac McClung Has Been Up To

Earlier this season, Mac McClung signed a deal with the banged up Indiana Pacers. He didn’t get a ton of run, but did appear in three games. One of which he put up 12 points in against the Atlanta Hawks.

Since then, he joined the Windy City Bulls G-League team. Averaging 27 points per game there, it’s been surprising once more that he hasn’t been able to get a consistent NBA opportunity.

Two weeks ago, the journeyman dropped 31 points and 17 assists in a game while hitting 55% of his shots. There is no offensive weakness in his game that has been able to be spotted.

McClung has logged just nine NBA games for five teams over the past five years. The opportunity will come again. After all, he’s just 27 years old.

This is one of the best dunkers we’ve ever seen in the Slam Dunk contest. He can break rims. He can bury threes.

Get Mac McClung on an NBA roster. ASAP.
