Miles Bridges addresses future in Charlotte Hornets amid trade rumors

The franchise star wants to remain with the Hornets as the Feb. 5 trade deadline looms.

Miles Bridges is completely aware of the trade noises and buzz surrounding him. But as much as possible, he would like to stick around with the Charlotte Hornets.

The Hornets star stands focused on helping his team win and remain with the franchise that drafted him.

“Just focus on winning, focus on controlling what I can control,” Bridges said, via Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer. “If I get traded, if I don’t get traded. … I would rather be here.

"But I know if I do get traded, I know (president of basketball operations) Jeff Peterson and those guys, they’ll talk to me first. So, I don’t try to worry about that. I just worry about the games.”

As the Feb. 5 trade deadline approaches, Bridges suddenly emerged as a name monitor. A handful of teams, like the Los Angeles Lakers, are reportedly interested in acquiring his play.

Bridges is currently in his seventh campaign as a Hornet and will be under contract until 2026-27 for $22.8 million. He is averaging 18.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists across 44 games so far.

Bridges and Charlotte (18-28) haven't made it to the NBA Playoffs since he arrived in 2018, but he is optimistic about the team's direction and would like to be a part of its long-term plans.

“Yeah, I for sure want to be a part of it,” Bridges said. “I feel like everybody else wants everybody to stay together. But you’ve just got to control what you can control, continue to stack games.”
