Despite the uncertainty, head coach Jason Kidd hopes that the trio will eventually share the court this season for the Mavs.
It remains unclear whether Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg will be able to share the court this 2025-26 season. But Jason Kidd is certainly hoping this scenario will eventually happen for the Dallas Mavericks.
Dallas Mavericks / Schedule
The Mavericks head coach addressed the potential playing status of the franchise's trio ahead of their Saturday matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers.
"We would love to see that in '26. There’s no guarantee," he said. "The only thing we can focus on are those guys in uniform that can play, and that’s what we’ve done until we get closer for Kai or closer for AD. Then we can start paying a little bit more attention to that."
The Mavericks have an unprecedented three No. 1 overall picks on their roster in Davis, Irving and Flagg, but all of them haven't played together this season.
Irving remains unavailable as he continues his ACL injury recovery. There were reports that the Mavs might postpone his return this season considering their awful record standing, but Kidd already dismissed the speculations.
Davis, who is currently on the trade block, is also inactive for the Mavs after suffering from a torn ligament injury in his hand. After choosing the nonsurgical route, he is expected to return by early March.
Flagg is the only one who is mostly available among the three. The reigning top overall pick of the previous NBA Draft stands as one of the lone bright spots for Dallas this year as he is averaging 18.8 points, 6.4 boards and 4.1 assists in his current rookie season.
The Mavericks are currently 11th in the West with a 19-26 record. For Kidd, he'd rather let both Irving and Davis continue their recovery before joining the rest of the group.
"Right now those guys are out for some time, so we’re focused on the guys that can play, and those guys are playing extremely hard, trusting one another, playing for one another, and having fun," he added.
"That’s what we’re focused on, but we would love to see that trio at some point."
