76ers sign Celtics Summer League standout to 10-day contract

Charles Bassey is heading back to the 76ers, the team that drafted him, on a 10-day contract, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The Sixers needed to make a move to fill their 15th roster spot due to NBA rules, so they signed Bassey for the short-term.

Bassey was on the Celtics Summer League team in 2025, playing well in his three games in Las Vegas. He averaged 15.3 points and 11.0 rebounds in Vegas, leading to fans buzzing about signing with the Celtics. But the C’s rolled with a big man rotation of Neemias Queta, Luka Garza and two-way big man Amari Williams.

After his Summer League stint, Bassey was with the Hawks for preseason before getting waived. He drew some overseas interest, but chose to stay stateside. Bassey is now with his second NBA team of the season. He was with the Grizzlies on a 10-day contract back in October, playing in two games and averaging 3.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

Following his Memphis stint, he signed with the Santa Cruz Warriors of the G League. In 10 games, Bassey averaged 18.7 points and 11.2 points, waiting for his next NBA opportunity. Turns out, it comes from the Sixers, who picked him 53rd overall in the 2021 draft. Bassey played 21 games in Philadelphia as part of the 2021-22 season.

Bassey is best known for his work with the Spurs, who he played for from 2022-25. He’s played in a career 115 NBA games, though he wasn’t able to find a guaranteed deal in the league this season. But now he’ll at least get some time to prove himself with the Sixers, who are 24-20 on the season.
