Jaylon Tyson continues to impress for the Cavaliers amid Darius Garland's absence

The Cleveland Cavaliers have picked it up recently after all their struggles early in the season. Of course, they are still struggling with some injuries, including to Darius Garland.

Since Garland has left a huge void in the backcourt, the Cavaliers needed a boost in that area of the rotation. In only his second year, Jaylon Tyson is already making a difference with his performances.

Atkinson loves what he keeps seeing from Tyson

Throughout the 2025-26 season, the Cavaliers have had a lot of struggles. However, there have been some constant bright spots, which are Donovan Mitchell and Jaylon Tyson.

Since they are playing in the same backcourt due to Garland's injury, Tyson has benefited from playing with a superstar. Tyson is holding his own, as he is defending well while contributing so much on the offensive end.

Atkinson has not failed to notice that because he knows what he has with Tyson. Ahead of Saturday's game against the Orlando Magic, which the Cavaliers won, Atkinson had nothing but praise for his second-year guard.

"I think the consistency, we're rolling him out with big minutes... We've played him 35 a game. We need him on the floor. I told him this for the first time last night, 'You gotta create for us more.' I think he did that and still did the dirty work. Kid is answering the bell," Atkinson said before the game against Orlando.

The Cavaliers' head coach also said that he never expected this from Tyson in his first season. He knew he had a good player in his hands, but he never expected him to be this good in only his second year.

Moving forward, it appears that Tyson has a regular spot in the rotation. Considering the Cavaliers are looking to have a good postseason run, Tyson will be extremely valuable for a team that needs backcourt or wing depth.
