Liverpool has been told it will need to pay a fortune to sign RB Leipzig player Yan Diomande during the forthcoming summer window.

The Merseyside club has been linked with the teenage forward following his impressive breakthrough campaign in the Bundesliga. The 19-year-old has featured 18 times for the Red Bull outfit this term, contributing seven goals and four assists.

Diomande's performances earned him a place in the Ivory Coast's squad for the recent Africa Cup of Nations, where he made five appearances and netted his maiden goal in the major competition. His influence at both club and international level has sparked speculation linking Diomande with a switch from Leipzig to Liverpool – a route previously taken by Dominik Szoboszlai.

Leipzig, however, rates its rising star so highly that it won't entertain cut-price offers.

According to Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg, the player carries a valuation of "at least" €100 million ($118.3 million).

Such a figure would represent a club-record sale for the German side, surpassing the €90 million ($106.4 million) Manchester City paid for Croatian center-back Josko Gvardiol in January 2023.

That said, it's noted that Leipzig's asking price will only remain firm on the condition that Diomande's performances "do not stagnate" between now and the conclusion of the current season.

In England, Sky Sports reports that the €100 million price tag is deterring Liverpool and other interested clubs from making a bid this January.

The Reds and their rivals would prefer to negotiate a deal in the region of €60 million to €70 million ($71 million to $82.8 million).

However, this seems unlikely given the recent firm statement from Oliver Mintzlaff, chairman of Red Bull's supervisory board.

"As chairman of the supervisory board, I can confidently say he will definitely remain with us next season - even if an offer of €80 million ($94.6 million) or €90 million ($106.4 million) were to come in," he declared to Sky Sports Germany.

It remains to be seen how Leipzig's determination will stand up against Diomande's dream of playing for Liverpool one day.

"I want to play at Anfield, I want to play for Liverpool. I'm a big fan of Liverpool," the young player confessed during a TikTok stream.

"I'm a big fan of Liverpool because my father's dream is to see me play at Anfield. So that's my dream. You know, to fulfil my father's dream is a dream for me too."
