On Sunday night, the No. 1 jersey of the former NBA star was raised to the rafters of the United Center, officially cementing Rose as a part of the Bulls' storied basketball history.
Rose joins Michael Jordan (23), Scottie Pippen (33), Jerry Sloan (4) and Bob Love (10) as the fifth player in the franchise to receive the jersey retirement honor.
Several of Rose's family members and former teammates appeared in the special event, including Joakim Noah, Luol Deng, Taj Gibson and Kirk Hinrich. Tom Thibodeau, his beloved Bulls head coach, also attended and delivered a special speech.
"He showed everyone what it takes to be a great Chicago Bull and a great man," Thibodeau said. "The next stop, in my opinion, is the Hall of Fameāand there is no doubt about that.
"Thank you, Derrick, love you."
Rose was drafted No. 1 overall pick by the Bulls in the 2008 NBA Draft. For seven seasons, he spearheaded the Bulls toward success, highlighted by their trip to the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals.
At age 22, he became the youngest league MVP in NBA history during the 2010-11 season. He is also a three-time All-Star, an All-NBA member and a gold medalist for both the United States' FIBA World Cup campaigns in 2010 and 2014.
