Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Jurrien Timber has been a better player for Arsenal this season than Declan Rice. He added that the Englishman and Martin Zubimendi have been similar, but the defenders have been on a better level.

Speaking on The Overlap, Scholes said that he does not see Rice being the best player in the world. He claimed that the Arsenal defenders deserve to be praised as they have made a bigger impact this season and said:

"Has Declan Rice been that special this year? I really like him, but I’m struggling to see that he is the best player in the league at this point. I think your defenders have probably had a bigger influence than Declan Rice. I like him but I’m just saying I don’t think he is the best player in the Premier League this year."

"I just think your defenders have had a bigger influence, the likes of Timber. I think Timber has been unbelievable. I think he has been brilliant. I couldn’t say Zubimendi has been better than Rice or Rice has been better than Zubimendi."

Arsenal face Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday, January 25. The Gunners come into the game on the back of two goalless draws in the league, while the Red Devils defeated Manchester City last weekend.

Manchester United legend on Arsenal's Premier League title chase

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has claimed that Arsenal are set to win the Premier League title because of Liverpool and Manchester City slipping up. He believes that the Gunners would not be on top if the other two sides were doing well, as Mikel Arteta's side have not beaten any of the top sides in the league. He said on The Overlap:

"One thing Arsenal haven’t done is they haven’t won a big game, beat a Liverpool or a Man City, they still haven’t done it. And I said earlier in the season that I can’t see them winning the league unless they start beating those types of teams."

"But looking at how many points Liverpool and City are dropping, I don’t think they are going to have to. I think it could be a canter for them. In other years gone by, City or Liverpool would be closer, and that’s the time when you have to win those games."

The Gunners are four points clear at the top of the Premier League table going into the game. They defeated Manchester United 1-0 on the opening day of the season at Old Trafford.
