Former Arsenal and Manchester City star Samir Nasri says he has been very impressed with the performances of Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike this season.
Speaking after the win over Marseille midweek, Nasri singled out the 23-year-old for being a forward who is always an active part of the game:
“What is really impressive is that even though he’s a striker and stats are extremely important, we still highlight the match [against Marseille] he had, even though he didn’t score or provide an assist.”

“But the visual impression: he’s dangerous every time he touches the ball, he creates the gap against his direct opponent every single time, and he manages to link up with all the Liverpool players.”
Ekitike has excellent qualities
Some strikers, even Erling Haaland, have been criticised for having too few touches and for failing to take part in build-up play.
That is not an accusation that you can level at Ekitike, who has already shown during his short time at Anfield that he is very capable of bringing others into the game.
While he can run in behind defences, the France international doesn’t have any issues coming short for the ball, either.
Any doubts about Liverpool investing £69m have been allayed
Many questioned whether the Reds had overspent on Ekitike last summer. After all, he had only been scoring regularly in the Bundesliga for a short period of time.
However, scouts were clearly convinced about his ability, and it has been borne out over the last six months that he has the potential to have a great career with the Reds. He’s a very good weapon to have in attack, and most would agree he is a big upgrade on someone like Darwin Nunez.
