Arsenal are exploring the possibility of signing Argentine striker Juli án Alvarez from Atl ético Madrid in the summer.
An indications from Spain are that Atlético could be ready to sell him although they will be demanding €100 million (£86.8m) for a player who won the treble with Manchester City.
The man who negotiated the deal that took him to the Spanish capital is Andrea Berta, now Sporting Director at Arsenal, who has close links with Alvarez and his representatives.
Barcelona are also interested in signing the 25-year old, who has four and a half years left on the contract he signed when joining Atlético in 2024.
Since then he has scored 40 goals in 85 appearances for Diego Simeone’ side.
Despite their strong position in all four competitions, Arsenal and Mikel Arteta are not content to rest on their laurels, with their striking options still underperforming. Alvarez is regarded as a player who could help them to another level.
