Man United have Barcelona’s Marc Casado on their radar following confirmation Casemiro will leave Old Trafford
Manchester United are currently linked with Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado as they consider options to bolster their engine room this year.
The 22-year-old, who has only played for Barca in his senior career so far, may look to push through a transfer as he searches for regular first team football.
United are among the clubs interested in signing Casado but his La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid are also in the running for his signature.
Man United target could push for an early transfer this year
According to Football Insider, Casado ‘could push’ for a move away from his boyhood club this summer due to a lack of regular playing time.
The 22-year-old became a regular for the senior side last season, which involved him making 36 appearances in all competitions and contributing to seven goals, despite being a defensive midfielder.
However, his time on the pitch has been more limited this season. Casado has been benched for Barca’s last three Champions League games and he has made just six La Liga starts so far.
At his age, he will be eager for regular football to continue his upwards trajectory. If he isn’t getting the time on the pitch he needs where he is, a move may be in his best interest. The irregular minutes right now are less than ideal for the point he’s at in his career.
With outside interest being shown, Casado could now ‘accelerate an exit’ from Barcelona, especially if he continues to struggle for regular minutes during the rest of this season.
Man United looking for new midfielders following Casemiro exit news
United will be eager to strengthen their midfield over the summer as they will be without Casemiro moving forwards. The club has confirmed that the Brazilian will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, following the expiration of his contract.
In a statement for the club, Casemiro addressed the fans and his team: “I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life.
“From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club.
“It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months. We still have a lot to fight for together; my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed.”
