Rangers are eyeing a move to sign highly-rated Barcelona youngster Daniel Rodriguez this month, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Danny Rohl's side have finally found some stability this season since the German took charge at Ibrox, and currently find themselves six points behind league leaders Hearts and level on points with Celtic, who play each other in their next Scottish Premiership match.
But the Light Blues are focused on themselves currently, and after already sealing deals to bring in Tochi Chukwuani, Tuur Rommens, and Andreas Skov-Olsen this month to bolster the squad, they are now looking to add another forward.
Rangers Eyeing Barcelona Youngster Rodriguez
Danny Rohl
Rodriguez, who has been described as 'Barcelona's best young player' has seen his pathway to the first team at the Camp Nou blocked by recent signings and the performances of stars such as Roony Bardgjhi, Marcus Rashford, and Fermin Lopez.
The 20-year-old is now looking at leaving the Catalan club temporarily to play regular first-team football, and a move to Croatia with Dinamo Zagreb looked to be advanced earlier in the window. However, it has now emerged that Rangers are interested in signing him and Rohl is using his links to first-team boss Hansi Flick to get a deal done.
Rohl and Flick worked together for Bayern Munich and the German national team, and the Glasgow club would like to bring the young Spaniard to Ibrox for the rest of the season to bolster their attack and provide some star quality.
Rodriguez wants to play regularly, and at a high level, and Rangers can offer that pathway this season as they look to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title, although they have already been eliminated from the Europa League despite their 1-0 win over Ludogrets in midweek.
Rangers Need Forward Reinforcements
Rangers manager Danny Rohl smiles during interview
Rohl has found a great balance in his Rangers team recently, and he has got his forward players performing, but he still needs more quality and reinforcements if he really wants to win the league.
Djeidi Gassama, Mikey Moore, and Skov-Olsen are his best winger options, with Rabbi Matondo seemingly having no future at the club and Oliver Antman struggling for game time since his arrival. That would suggest a new winger is needed, and Rodriguez could be the perfect option.
He's hungry and has a point to prove, but he's also clearly very talented. Rohl will know how to get the best from him, and his relationship with Flick means he will be able to get any added information necessary.
It would be a special signing for Rangers to complete, and having a player with the X-factor he has could be the difference between a trophyless season or lifting silverware come the end of the campaign.
