Liam Rosenior lifts the lid on how Chelsea’s heavily criticised transfer philosophy works

Head coach Liam Rosenior has opened up on how the much criticised transfer philosophy at Chelsea works, and whether it’s a collaborative process.

Chelsea have heavily invested in the transfer market since the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital takeover back in 2022.

There’s been a real shift in transfer policy with the Blues now pursuing a heavily youth focused recruitment model.

Chelsea have received a lot of criticism for the how they operate in the market, and whether the head coach has any say at all.

One of the reasons Enzo Maresca is said to have fallen out with the club is over not getting a new centre back last summer when Levi Colwill suffered an ACL injury.

Chelsea are now trying to bring in a centre back this month, and have identified Rennes star Jeremy Jacquet as their main target.

The recruitment is led by sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, and Rosenior has opened up on how everything works.

“We’re in a constant conversation, twice, three, four times a day, because the market moves so quickly,” he told NBC Sports Soccer.

“In January, things come up that you don’t expect, or you might get offers in for your players that you don’t expect. So we’re very open, collaborative.

“I’ve already had two conversations today, and I think it’s not even two o’clock in the afternoon here about the window, but we’ll keep working, and if we think something is right for the club in or out, we’ll make that decision.”

Chelsea exploring loan move for Douglas Luiz

As well as a centre back, Chelsea are exploring the possibility of bringing in a midfielder to provide short term cover.
