The Golden State Warriors could be without Stephen Curry (right knee soreness), De’Anthony Melton (rest) and Al Horford (left toe injury management) for Sunday’s rescheduled game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. All three players are listed as questionable on the first night of back-to-back away contests against Anthony Edwards and Co.

While Horford, 39, has not played in back-to-back games all season, Curry has played several consecutive games, including the fixtures against the Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors last week and the Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Hornets in late December. As such, there’s still the outside possibility of Curry playing both games against the Timberwolves on Sunday and Monday. It’s not surprising that the Warriors plan to rest Melton since the guard is still only 20 games removed from his ACL recovery.

Steph Curry, De’Anthony Melton and Al Horford all now listed as questionable on the Warriors’ injury report for rescheduled Sunday game in Minnesota. It is now front side of a back-to-back (game in Minnesota again on Monday).

Warriors Injury News

The Warriors injury report for Sunday’s contest has obviously been influenced by the tragic shooting of an ICU nurse by a federal immigration officer on Saturday. If the original schedule had played out — Saturday and Monday against the Timberwolves — there’s a good chance that Curry, Melton and Horford would have played both games.

The Warriors will also be without Joanthan Kuminga (left knee soreness), Jimmy Butler (season-ending ACL injury) and Seth Curry (sciatic nerve) on Sunday. The good news, however, is that Kuminga isn’t expected to miss much time after initial tests revealed he avoided serious injuries in Thursday’s 123-115 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.

Both the Timberwolves and Warriors could desperately use a win on Sunday. While Steve Kerr’s team has lost its last two games, the Timberwolves are on a four-game losing streak dating back to a loss to the Houston Rockets last Friday.

Stephen Curry Soldiers On

If Curry does sit out Sunday, it’d mark his 11th missed game of the season, meaning he’d be just seven more absences away from losing eligibility for an All-NBA honor.

The 37-year-old sharpshooter is still performing at an exceptionally high level, averaging 27.4 points and 4.9 assists while making a league-best 4.6 threes a game. That’s precisely why many analysts and fans have sympathized with Curry’s situation of having to play on a mediocre team in the final few years of his prime. That sentiment only grew louder when Jimmy Butler III went down with a season-ending ACL injury.

There have also been unfounded rumors that Curry, a free agent in 2027, could potentially seek a trade in an effort to compete for his fifth championship. However, The Athletic’s Sam Amick dismissed those rumors recently.

“Steph has never sent any signals that he has any intention of anything other than finishing [his career] with the Warriors. He still has good relationships with Joe Lacob, Mike Dunleavy and the coaching staff. He still has a level of belief in them,” Curry told “Run it Back” on FanDuel TV after Butler’s season-ending injury.

The Warriors (25-21) are expected to be buyers ahead of the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline, but it’s unlikely that any move will help them return to title contention.
