Teddy Sheringham has torn into Manchester United for allowing and to pass them by - insisting that would never have happened under Sir Alex Ferguson's watch.
The Red Devils remain behind the eight ball domestically as their wait for a title goes on. They're in the midst of a top four battle whilst , spearheaded by Rice in their midfield, sit top of the pile.
Rice moved to the Gunners from for a club-record £105million back in 2023 and has proved to be a shrewd investment since, widely regarded as the best in the in his position.
Kane was also on the move that summer. He called time on his spell with and headed to , despite being on United's radar. It was the Germans who paid £86m to land him and Sheringham believes United have been turning their noses up and buying "second-rate" players.
He told : “I think they should have got two and a half, three years ago when he was up for grabs. I said then at the time, Kane and Declan Rice should both be snapped up because they’re leaders on the football pitch.

"That’s what it takes at United to be top players. You have to have leaders on the football pitch. They were two top English internationals at the top of their game years ago. Sir would have bought those players to lead by example and United didn’t.
“They went for the next rung in Hojlund for £70million instead of Kane for £100m. You end up getting that type of performance. You get that second-rate performance. It makes it hard for your football club to flourish.”
Rice has been a huge hit whilst Kane has broken numerous records with the German giants. There is an expectation that he will eventually return to England, but Bayern are getting him in the peak of his career whilst United have continued to struggle for a prolific forward.
They spent £70m to land Benjamin Sesko in the summer and he too has found life difficult despite arriving with a big reputation. He's been in and out of the starting XI having scored five times all year - but Sheringham is confident about that investment.
“I really like Sesko," he said. "He leads the way, he’s holding the ball up with two centre-arcs around him, laying lovely little balls off into midfield. I was very impressed with him."
