Tottenham, Chelsea and‘even’Bournemouth in€70m transfer chase

In mid January, Tottenham Hotspur were seriously thrown into the mix for AS Roma’s Mile Svilar. As Sport Witness has covered repeatedly, Guglielmo Vicario is of interest to multiple Italian clubs and could leave Spurs in the summer.

Svilar has, for many onlookers at least, been the best goalkeeper in Serie A this season. The 26-year-old has shown great attitude in how he’s progressed his career and level. The mid January stance was that Roma may require as much as €70m from Tottenham.

Chelsea and – ‘even’ – Bournemouth are also keen. Gazzetta dello Sport share their information on Sunday, and Tottenham, Chelsea and Bournemouth are thrown in.

For Gazzetta, Bournemouth are seen as perhaps a little below the level Svilar would be looking for, hence the ‘even’. However, the presence of transfer guru Tiago Pinto could help the Cherries with any pursuit. Pinto worked at Roma for three years, from 2021 to 2024, and knows the club very well.

Svilar was named best goalkeeper in Serie A for last season and is well placed to take the award again. Bayern Munich are also keen and it would be no surprise to see interest rise around Europe.

Mile Svilar has quietly become one of Europe’s best

AS Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini is notoriously hard to please, but even he’s impressed: “He’s a goalkeeper who brings a lot of points. He can be compared to a 25-goal striker. He’s certainly among the best in Europe.”

Roma, therefore, aren’t especially keen to sell. However, they have financial pressures like many Italian clubs, and a huge fee would be considered.

Whether Tottenham, Chelsea or Bournemouth are willing to offer that remains to be seen. This is obviously one for the summer and not the current window.
