Premier League side chasing Chelsea defender

Chelsea travel to the south of the capital on Sunday afternoon to face London rivals Crystal Palace.

New head coach Liam Rosenior has taken charge of his side in four different competitions across his first four matches in charge, but the Englishman will now oversee his second Premier League match when the Blues visit Selhurst Park.

At present the west London outfit occupy sixth place in the Premier League table, but victory against the Eagles could lift them as high as fourth if other results go their way.

Ahead of Sunday’s match, it has emerged that Palace are interested in one member of Rosenior’s squad.

As reported by Sky Sports, Crystal Palace are interested in Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong.

The report claims that the Eagles are interested in the 19-year-old, who can play at right-back or as a central defender.

Palace are said to be interested in signing the Englishman during the current transfer window, following the departure of captain Marc Guehi to Manchester City earlier this month.

It is not yet clear, however, whether Chelsea would be willing to allow the defender to leave in any capacity, whether it be on loan or permanently.

Acheampong is a product of Chelsea’s youth system and is one of several players to have graduated from the club’s academy into the first team at Stamford Bridge in recent seasons.

In total the teenager has made 31 appearances for the west London outfit across all competitions, including 17 games so far this term.

Acheampong os contracted to the Blues until the end of the 2028/29 campaign, and it is currently unclear whether or not the club would allow him to depart considering his importance to Rosenior’s side.
