Glasner Admits Chelsea“Quality” Ahead of Crunch Selhurst Clash

Oliver Glasner, the manager of Crystal Palace, has spoken about Chelsea ahead of their important Premier League game at Selhurst Park on Sunday. The Blues won their last league game against Brentford 2-0, which clearly caught the attention of the Austrian manager.

Chelsea are in sixth place in the table, with Liam Rosenior as their new manager. He got his first Premier League win in the game against Brentford on January 17. Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer scored the goals that gave the three points at Stamford Bridge, but the Bees were in control for most of the game.

Glasner didn’t hide his respect for Chelsea, as he said in his press conference:

“A great team, fantastic players… Chelsea were very efficient and punished every mistake Brentford made, and that’s the quality of the team and players.”

The Eagles manager is going through a rough patch right now, notably announcing on January 16 that he will leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season. Days later, after the club lost 2-1 to Sunderland, he went on a rant against the club’s leaders, saying he felt “abandoned completely” when captain Marc Guehi left for Manchester City in a £20 million deal.

Glasner has since had “very good talks” with chairman Steve Parish to clear things up. The manager said he is “100 percent committed” to the club until the end of the season, but the problems persist. In the summer, Palace lost their best player, Eberechi Eze, to Arsenal. The only player they have added in January is Brennan Johnson, who cost them £35 million.

Chelsea’s Start Under Rosenior Shows Promise Despite Unconvincing Displays

Liam Rosenior has won three of the four games he has been in charge of at Chelsea, which is a great start for a manager who just got there this month. After Chelsea won only two of their last 10 Premier League games under Enzo Maresca, the former Strasbourg manager has gotten things back on track.

But the performances haven’t been as good as the results. Chelsea lost control of the midfield against Brentford by the hour mark and were stuck in their own third as the visitors pushed for an equalizer. Liam Delap, who came on as a substitute, won a late penalty after goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher made a mistake, and Palmer scored from the spot to seal the points.

Chelsea are trying to win two Premier League games in a row for the first time since November. A win at Selhurst Park would make things easier, but Rosenior might be worried about injuries. Cole Palmer’s thigh problem will be looked at after he missed Wednesday’s 1-0 Champions League win over Pafos.
