Liam Rosenior secured a statement victory as Chelsea romped to a 3-0 defeat of ten-man Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Blues were rocked in the buildup to the match by the news of Cole Palmer’s latest injury setback and subsequently were slow to start, with Jean-Philippe Mateta squandering a one-on-one in the early stages.

But Estevao pounced on a poor backpass and streaked away from Tyrick Mitchell to open the scoring against the run of play moments before half-time.

Moments after the break, Joao Pedro made it two, latching onto a sweet chipped pass from his countryman Estevao before cutting in and firing through the legs of Dean Henderson.

After Jaydee Canvot’s handball, which denied Pedro a brace, Enzo Fernandez scored from the spot to put Chelsea three to the good.

Palace’s misery was then compounded as Adam Wharton, imperious in the middle of the park, was shown two yellow cards for a pair of near-identical late tackles on Moises Caicedo.

There would be no clean sheet, though, as Chris Richards headed home from close range in the late stages to give the hosts some consolation.
