Mavericks rumors: Anthony Davis disagrees with Rich Paul’s trade stance

Recently, rumors have been swirling around the Dallas Mavericks and whether they might look to trade big man Anthony Davis ahead of the upcoming deadline. Last week, reports surfaced that Davis' agent Rich Paul was demanding that the Mavericks get his client to a new destination as he recovers from an injury.

However, now it appears that Davis himself is less adamant about getting a trade done.

“There are trade discussions, his agent Rich Paul has made it clear he thinks it's in AD's best interest to be traded. AD does not necessarily agree though. I have been told he has not been pushing to be moved and is comfortable here in Dallas,” reported NBA insider Tim McMahon on ESPN's broadcast of the Mavericks' loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night, per Oh No He Didn't on X, formerly Twitter.

Paul has never been shy about using his public platform, which he gathered thanks to his friendship with LeBron James, to leverage teams and get his clients where he wants them to go. At times throughout this years, this has contradicted what the clients themselves have actually wanted, and it seems that something similar could be brewing here, although McMahon did not report that Davis is against a trade being made.

At this point, it's hard to tell what exactly teams might be willing to give up in exchange for Davis considering his lengthy injury history, which continued recently with a hand injury that reportedly nearly required the big man to undergo surgery.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks have fully handed over the keys of the franchise to number one overall draft pick Cooper Flagg, and also have Kyrie Irving waiting in the wings to return from his ACL injury from a season ago.

The NBA trade deadline is set for February 5.
