Liverpool are now "interested" in hijacking Chelsea's move to sign a much-needed centre-back for Arne Slot, according to recent reports.
Slot: Liverpool have themselves to blame for Bournemouth defeat
For all of Liverpool's hard work to spin their recent unbeaten as a miraculous turnaround, defeat against Bournemouth created an all too familiar feeling that the Premier League champions wear somewhat of a paper crown these days. The Reds are no longer feared, and the Cherries sensed that from the off, before eventually making them pay at the death.
What next for Slot is the big question. It doesn't look as though January signings are on the cards and that comes as a frustrating blow despite record-breaking spending in the summer.
Against Bournemouth, Liverpool ended the game with a midfielder at right-back in Dominik Szoboszlai, a midfielder at centre-back in Wataru Endo and a left-back who could be heading to Tottenham Hotspur in Andy Robertson. That, in many ways, sums up their problems from top to bottom this season.

Slot, however, claimed that his side only had themselves to blame against Bournemouth: “I don’t think it’s fair to Virgil to blame him for the first goal because you could see throughout the game how much impact the wind had on certain balls.
“He wasn’t the only one who had once in a while a struggle with the wind. Of course the second one was when we were down to 10.
“Maybe that sums up our season. It’s every time something else, it’s every time something special how we concede but we concede. The only ones to blame is ourselves.”
Liverpool "interested" in Jeremy Jacquet
Of course, one way for the Reds to solve their big defensive problem is by spending more money in the summer. To that end, Liverpool are "interested" in a move to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The defender has attracted the interest of Chelsea this month, but the Blues have been told that a deal will not be happening in the January window - leaving the door ajar for Liverpool in the summer.
It's easy to see why Liverpool are interested in the 20-year-old. With Ibrahima Konate on his way out of the club unless he signs a new deal before the summer, Joe Gomez remaining injury-prone and Virgil van Dijk coming to the end of his deal in 2027, the Reds desperately need another option.

Arne Slot is under pressure...
Valued at £60m by Rennes, the deal won't come cheap, yet would be worthwhile. Dubbed "powerful" by Como scout Ben Mattinson, Jacquet is certainly one to watch.
