Rosenior praises “special abilities” of one Chelsea star after crucial contributions

Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 3-1 today and that was in large part thanks to Estevao Willian. The winger scored the first goal after a superb run and finish.

Manager Liam Rosenior was then asked about the youngster post game, and was full of praise for the young winger:

“He’s a player with special abilities, special talent. He’s been ill, and every time he’s been on the pitch so far with me, I think he’s been outstanding. But I feel if you watch that goal, what makes me so happy is all eleven men are back behind the ball. That’s why he gets the space.”

But in his typical style, Rosenior tried to spread the praise around the whole team.

“I don’t want to talk too much about individuals. I thought it was a top team performance away from home, from Joao Pedro pressing, Pedro Neto and Estevao from the front, the two midfield players, Andrey Santos tactically, and then the defenders had to defend really, really well against the presence of Mateta.

“So yeah, Estevao, so happy with him, but so happy with the whole team.”

That’s fair enough – it was without doubt Estevao’s magic which changed the game, but the rest of the team created the platform for that. It will be very interesting how his minutes are managed going forward. He won’t start against Napoli next week – but he probably should.

Chelsea were busy getting a nice 3-1 win, but off the pitch, there was a major transfer update from Fabrizio Romano on the subject of Jeremy Jacquet.

It was a positive day for Chelsea overall, but there was one decision that Rosenior made that people weren’t so sure about.
