Jamie Redknapp has urged Liverpool to make some moves before the January transfer window shuts after the Reds were dealt yet another injury blow.

Liverpool is yet to make a major signing this month, and with just over a week to go in the window, time is running out if the club is to make any inroads.

Arne Slot has already indicated that he expects to have the same squad in place once the window closes on February 2, although he and sporting director Richard Hughes will be under added pressure from supporters following another bad weekend in the Premier League.

Not only did the Reds fall to a 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth, but they lost Joe Gomez to injury during the first half at the Vitality Stadium. Slot admitted after the game that he didn’t know whether the defender would be able to train in the coming days after his collision with Alisson Becker.

That leaves his involvement against Qarabag in the Champions League on Wednesday in serious doubt, and Liverpool will be hoping he isn’t absent for any longer.

The Reds are already short on options at the back, with Giovanni Leoni and Conor Bradley out for the rest of the season, while Ibrahima Konate is away at the moment following the death of his father.

Slot is already in the realms of relying on Ryan Gravenberch or Wataru Endo to fill in at center-back, with the club having decided against making another move for Marc Guehi this month, with the former Crystal Palace captain instead securing a switch to Manchester City.

Former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp feels that was a huge missed opportunity for his old club, and believes it will have to look elsewhere over the coming days now.

“It does feel like they are down to the bare bones if you like,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“They need some players, he needs a little bit of help in that department, because if they were to pick up an injury or two more, they’re going to have real problems.

“I don’t know the ins and outs, but Guehi felt like a big miss. That was always something that everybody in football would say that he’s going to be going to Liverpool, it looks like a done deal.

"Manchester City obviously came in and offered him a huge amount of money to go there, and it’s a really good move for him, I fully understand that one.

“It just felt like that would have been one that Liverpool would have certainly partaken in. They didn’t, so now they have to be clever in the market.

“The hard thing is you go and buy a player, and Leoni is going to be a real star, and he’s probably going to be fit for the start of next season hopefully, so you’re in a bit of a position, but you’ve got to make sure you’ve got some strength in depth.”
