Everything you need to know about Trent Alexander-Arnold's future with Real Madrid, as Manchester City have been linked with a move for the former Liverpool star...
Trent Alexander-Arnold leaves Liverpool: The English full-back joined Real Madrid in a deal worth around £10m last May. Although he could have left later in the summer on a free, Los Blancos opted to pay a fee to secure him for the Club World Cup.
Injuries from the outset: The full-back suffered muscular issues during the Club World Cup, before a hamstring injury in September forced him out of La Liga and Champions League action for over a month. A muscle tear in early December, meanwhile, has seen him sidelined for 61 days and counting.
Potential return date: Having missed 14 matches for Real Madrid as a result of his current injury, Alexander-Arnold is expected to be available for selection once more in early February.
Limited game time: Because of injury, Alexander-Arnold has played just 11 games for Real Madrid in total this season, having featured eight times in La Liga, and a further three times in the Champions League.
An uncertain future: Alexander-Arnold's future at the Bernabeu has been cast into speculation as a result of a worrying first season with Madrid. While it is understood that the full-back will attempt to fight for his place at his current club, it hasn't prevented interest coming in from elsewhere.
A surprising Manchester City link: As per TEAMtalk, Manchester City are reportedly considering a swoop for the 27-year-old, after already bolstering their ranks with the acquisitions of Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi this month. While a formal approach is yet to come to fruition, it is thought that the Sky Blues are monitoring Alexander-Arnold's future carefully.
A deal may not come cheap: Despite only spending around £10m to bring Alexander-Arnold to the Bernabeu given his expiring contract at the time, Real Madrid may not want to sell the talent for cheap. Under contract until 2031, there is no great hurry to offload the defender.
No way back to Liverpool: Despite Liverpool struggling in terms of consistency this season, it appears as though Alexander-Arnold burned all bridges when he opted to leave his boyhood club to chase glory under the Spanish sun last summer. Supporters on Merseyside were incredibly vocal about his departure less than a year ago, while he was also booed by fans at Anfield when he made an appearance in the Champions League against his former club in November.
