If Liam Rosenior had been offered four wins from five games and still be in with a shot of reaching the Carabao Cup final after the first leg, the new Chelsea gaffer would have snapped your hand off.
A massive 5-1 win over Charlton Athletic came in Rosenior’s first game, followed by the 3-2 defeat to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup. Respectable, getting the job done and living up to fans’ expectations.
A slightly more impressive result would come next in the 2-0 win over Brentford at home, but fans were left slightly concerned given the number of chances Brentford had. Chelsea were lucky to win 2-0.

An uncomfortable 1-0 win over Pafos came next. While it might not be vintage Chelsea, or even the best version of a Rosenior side. At this stage, Rosenior needs credit in the bank, and to do that, he needs wins.

Palace might be in disarray, and it might be the best time to play Oliver Glasner’s side, but it is still a side that won the FA Cup last season, minus Marc Guehi. At Selhurst Park, Palace are still a tough side to beat.
Aside from Jean-Philippe Mateta’s missed chance early on, and a late 10-man Palace onslaught, Chelsea were very good. A near-perfect away performance, which earned Rosenior the votes of the Chelsea fans.
Asked about the away support singing his name, Rosenior said: “I’m very happy to be here. It’s a fantastic club with fantastic fans. I need to earn that. Hopefully over time, they’ll see something good can happen.”

Gary Lineker said his “man-age” comments were David Brent-like. But there is being in front of a camera, and there is being a manager of one of the world’s biggest clubs. The FIFA Club World Cup champions.
What Rosenior has got right is his ability to keep players fresh in the midst of a mad schedule. Palace was Rosenior’s fifth game in 15 days. He made six more changes and yet still managed to beat Palace away.
What is impressive is Rosenior’s ability to switch personnel, even alter tactics and still get a performance and more importantly a result at the full-time whistle. Next up, maybe his toughest yet, Conte in Naples.
