Patrick Dorgu has ignited new injury worries at Manchester United after being substituted due to an apparent issue during the Red Devils thrilling win against Arsenal.

The pulsating game was a heated affair at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening, with the Reds going toe-to-toe with the Gunners. Lisandro Martinez put the hosts ahead 29 minutes into the match with an own goal when his clearance from his own six-yard box ricocheted into the back of Senne Lammens' net.

However, Arsenal's lead didn't last long, as Bryan Mbeumo levelled the score eight minutes later following a glaring mistake from Martin Zubimendi. The Cameroonian capitalised on a poorly executed pass back to David Raya in his own half, rounding the Arsenal goalkeeper and slotting into an empty net. But the best was yet to come with a goal that silenced the Emirates.

Dorgu then put his team in front for the first time just five minutes after half-time, playing a series of neat one-twos with Bruno Fernandes on the edge of the area before unleashing a tremendous volley that rattled the crossbar and beat a helpless Raya.

However, the 21-year-old's stint at the Emirates was abruptly cut short. With roughly 10 minutes remaining, Dorgu went down after a speedy duel with Ben White, clutching his hamstring as he lay on the pitch, reports the Manchester Evening News.

United's medical team quickly rushed onto the field to evaluate him, before he was replaced by Benjamin Sesko shortly afterwards. While the severity of Dorgu's injury is yet to be determined, it could pose a significant challenge for Michael Carrick at this crucial stage of the season.

The interim manager has enjoyed good fortune regarding player fitness since his arrival at Old Trafford, but an injury layoff for Dorgu would certainly complicate matters.

United fans expressed their worries online, with one posting on X: "Only negative from that game is the Dorgu injury. Praying it’s not serious." Another said: "Dorgu hits his prime and gets injured man this sport is so cruel, hope it’s not serious.

Meanwhile, Steven Railston of the Manchester Evening News issued an update on the same platform, as he tweeted: "Patrick Dorgu coy on his injury: 'We'll see.' He was walking with a limp as he left #mufc"

The Danish star played a crucial role in United's 2-0 triumph over City in Carrick's debut match as boss, with his influence in Sunday's clash against Arsenal equally undeniable.

This came as Arsenal managed to fight back into the contest in the dying stages, with Mikel Merino offering the current table-toppers a ray of hope when he netted 84 minutes in.

The celebrations in north London were short-lived though, as Matheus Cunha restored the Red Devils' advantage three minutes later with what proved to be the match-winning strike.

Following seven minutes of stoppage time, a small section of the Emirates celebrated as United emerged 3-2 victors in the capital, dealing a significant blow to Arsenal's ambitions of securing the Premier League crown for the first time in 23 years.

The victory sees United climb to fourth in the table with 10 victories, eight draws and five defeats this campaign. Next up for the Red Devils is a home encounter with Fulham on Sunday, February 1.
