Ornstein exclusive: Chelsea “trigger clause” and secure centre back for rest of season, with…

Chelsea are making a rather unexpected transfer move, with David Ornstein reporting exclusively on a done deal at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have decided to recall Aaron Anselmino from Borussia Dortmund. The defender joined the club a year ago, and spent 6 months with the German club, playing well but picking up repeated injuries that limited his game time.

Ornstein say that Chelsea are “evaluating the centre back market” and “want the 20 year old back from Dortmund to consider their next steps.” They have the same option on Strasbourg defender Mamadou Sarr.

We’re not quite sure what this all means – it sounds like the chase of Jeremy Jacquet is over, and we want the Argentine back as a body in the squad for the second half of the season. There was no reason to bring him back other than that – he was playing, just wasn’t staying fit.

In fact, he was getting great reviews when he was on the pitch.

Potentially he could be loaned out domestically to free up a foreign loan slot, or maybe there’s something in the bigger picture here we’re missing.

There is also good news in there for Blues fans who like young academy player Josh Acheampong – his rumoured sale this month is seen “impossible.” That’s comforting. We would hate this recall to be precipitating that departure.
