Chelsea fans will have been glued to the screens or in the away end at Selhurst Park when Fabrizio Romano delivered an update on the future of wonderkid Jeremy Jacquet.
The Blues were excellent as Rosenior guided his side to a 3-1 win over FA Cup winners Palace during the afternoon. The win did see Chelsea go fourth for a couple of hours, before Man United beat Arsenal.
Chelsea remain in fifth, ahead of a fifth London derby already under Rosenior next week when the Blues host West Ham at Stamford Bridge. The small matter of a trip to Naples comes on Wednesday night.

At the same time, Chelsea are looking to bring a defender to Stamford Bridge. Jeremy Jacquet is the club’s pick, though Marcos Senesi and Jacobo Ramon are also options. Rosenior is a big fan of Jacquet.
Romano delivers Jacquet update during Chelsea win v Palace
Talks are believed to be ongoing for the 20-year-old talent, but it seems Chelsea are perhaps finding the battle to get a deal over the line than first thought. Julien Laurens said a fee must exceed Jeremy Doku’s.
After talks had been reported and the suggestion that Jacquet was desperate to join Chelsea had emerged, updates had dried up of late. But on Sunday, Romano provided one – but it isn’t good news.

That is, if you wanted Jacquet signed. Romano reported that Chelsea have been left frustrated in their hope of signing Jacquet but still want him in the summer. Liverpool and Bayern are also interested.
Romano reported on X at 3:20 PM that Chelsea had failed in their hope to lure Jacquet to West London before the end of the January window.: “Rennes have no intention to let Jeremy Jacquet leave in January.
“But [Rennes] can open doors to sale ahead of summer window. Chelsea approach rejected but keen on deal ASAP for the summer. Understand Liverpool and FC Bayern are also interested,” Romano added.
Chelsea have since taken action after Jacquet failure
While Chelsea have failed to get their man, many feel the £60m-£65m fee being touted for a player that had played just 30 times at senior level for Rennes was bloated. Chelsea keep their powder dry, for now.

Instead, Chelsea have moved to bring Argentine defender Aaron Anselmino back to Stamford Bridge after an indifferent loan spell with Borussia Dortmund. It is unclear if Chelsea will look to integrate Anselmino.
Rosenior has also recalled Axel Disasi from Chelsea’s two-man bomb squad alongside Raheem Sterling. Rosenior says Disasi will need time to regain fitness but the Frenchman could be used by the manager.
While losing out on Jacquet this month, Chelsea still have plenty of in-house options to deal with the lack of centre-back alternatives following Tosin’s injury. They also have a week to re-enter the transfer window.
