Another Sheffield Wednesday player says goodbye - defender set for Chelsea switch

Sheffield Wednesday defender, Yisa Alao, has bid farewell to the club after 10 years at Hillsborough ahead of his move to Chelsea.

The Star reported earlier this month that the Owls had received a bid from the Blues as they looked to beat both Manchester United and Liverpool to the teenager’s signature, and it was later revealed that the full back was edging closer to a ‘ high six-figure’ move to Stamford Bridge.

It’s now understood that the 17-year-old is on the brink of finalising his move to the Premier League giants, with the player himself taking to social media on Sunday evening to say his goodbyes.

He said on his Instagram page, “10 years, endless memories, from the staff, to my teammates, to the fans, forever grateful. Thank you, Sheffield Wednesday.”

There has been no definitive answer yet on how much Wednesday will get with regards to his transfer, but it is thought that they’re set to receive a high six-figure upfront fee. As previously reported, discussion around the deal is understood to have taken a little longer than initially anticipated due to negotiations over hefty add-ons to be included in the deal.

Alao’s goodbye comes the day after Owls captain, Barry Bannan, said a teary farewell at Ashton Gate following the game against Bristol City, with the long-serving Wednesday man looking likely to join Millwall.
