Liverpool supporters are still struggling to accept the idea of Andy Robertson possibly leaving for Tottenham Hotspurs.
What was meant to be a quiet end to the January window has suddenly become tense and uncertain.
Robertson has been a symbol of consistency at Anfield for years. His engine, leadership and reliability are not easy to replace.
If he leaves, Liverpool will immediately be short in a key position. That reality is now forcing the club and the fans to look closely at their remaining options.
At the moment, Milos Kerkez would stand as the only senior left-back.
That is far from ideal in the middle of a long and demanding season.
The club have also lost academy depth, with Luke Chambers recently joining Charlton. That move removed another emergency option.
Naturally, attention has turned to Kostas Tsimikas. The Greek left-back joined AS Roma on loan in August 2025.
Under Gian Piero Gasperini, he has featured regularly in a side pushing for a Champions League place.
Roma are covering his full £75,000-a-week wages, and the loan is due to run until June 30, 2026.
Tsimikas has already made 16 appearances this season, including 11 in Serie A and five in the Europa League.
He also played 71 minutes in a 2-0 win over Stuttgart on January 22, earning a solid 6.7 rating.
Despite this, uncertainty has grown over his future and even though it is expected that the left back returns to the Merseyside, Roma have now named Tsimikas on the substitutes’ bench for their AC Milan game.
It may be a sign that plans may already be changing, but that is highly unlikely.
Since joining from Olympiacos in 2020 for £11.75m, Tsimikas made 115 appearances, registered 18 assists, and played 5,821 minutes.
He won a Premier League title, two Carabao Cups, an FA Cup and a Community Shield. He also famously scored the winning penalty in the 2022 FA Cup Final.
If Robertson leaves, Liverpool may once again turn to a player who already understands the club. But for many fans, it still feels like a stopgap rather than a true solution.
