Arsenal are aiming to win the Premier League title this season under the guidance of Mikel Arteta
Arsenal are back in Premier League action on Sunday afternoon at home to Manchester United. They remain top of the table ahead of Manchester City and Aston Villa. Mikel Arteta’s side are hoping to win the title this season after falling just short over recent years.
The Gunners won 3-1 away at Inter Milan in the Champions League last time out. Striker Gabriel Jesus scored twice at the San Siro. Viktor Gyokeres also managed to get himself on the scoresheet.
Arsenal links to Julian Alvarez addressed by reporter
In this latest update, reporter Pete O’Rourke has delivered this verdict on the player, as per a report by Football Insider: “Alvarez is a top player, he’s proven that. He was South American Footballer of the Year and is Premier League proven after winning the title a couple of times with Man City.
“It’d be a huge deal for Atletico to even consider selling him as well, you’re probably looking around £80million plus for someone like him. He’s under contract until 2030, and there’s been talk that Atletico would look to try and tie him down to a new deal.
“If there’s any indication that Alvarez would consider a move away from Atletico, you’ll have all the biggest and best clubs in Europe ready to try and sign the Argentine.”
Where would Julian Alvarez fit in at Arsenal?
Arsenal could see Alvarez as someone to boost their attacking department. If he joined them, he would give them more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch and inject more quality into their squad. He would battle it out with the likes of Jesus and Gyokeres for a place in their starting XI.
Alvarez started his career at River Plate and rose up through their academy ranks as a youngster. He was a regular for them at various different youth levels before breaking into their first-team. Manchester City lured him away from South America back in 2022.
He went on to play 103 matches during his time at the Etihad Stadium under the guidance of Pep Guardiola and he scored 36 goals. City then decided to sell him when Atletico Madrid came calling in 2024. He has since found the net on 40 occasions in 85 outings since his switch to Spain.
Landing Alvarez would be a statement of intent by Arsenal if they managed to get him. They may need to see off competition from elsewhere for his services though, with Chelsea also mentioned as a potential suitor. He has proved that he can perform in England from his days at City and a change of scene may well do him good.
