Warriors Get Big News on Stephen Curry as Another Injury Hits

The Golden State Warriors upgraded Stephen Curry to available for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, offering a critical boost to a roster already strained by mounting injuries.

ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported the update after Curry completed a full pregame workout in Minneapolis.

“Steph Curry is available today in Minnesota,” Slater wrote on X. “Currently wrapping up a full pregame workout. Had been listed as questionable after feeling something in his knee yesterday.”

Curry’s return comes as Golden State confirmed that Jonathan Kuminga will miss additional time after an MRI revealed a bone bruise stemming from the knee hyperextension and ankle roll he suffered Thursday night in a 123–115 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.

The Warriors announced Friday that Kuminga’s MRI ruled out structural damage but confirmed a bone bruise caused by the hyperextension.

“His progress will be monitored and a re-evaluation date will be determined in the coming days,” the team said in a statement.

The injury occurred at the 4:29 mark of the second quarter against Dallas when Kuminga landed awkwardly while driving to the basket. He initially attempted to remain in the game before heading to the locker room for treatment. Golden State listed him as questionable to return, but he was ultimately ruled out for the second half.

The setback arrives at a brutal moment for the Warriors, less than a week after Jimmy Butler III suffered a season-ending ACL tear — an injury that forced head coach Steve Kerr to reinsert Kuminga into the rotation after a stretch of 16 straight DNPs through late December and January.

Kuminga’s Resurgence Cut Short After Immediate Impact

Kuminga wasted little time making an impact after returning to Kerr’s rotation.

In his first game back, the former No. 7 overall pick poured in 20 points in 21 minutes against Toronto. He followed that with 10 points in just nine minutes versus Dallas before the injury halted his momentum.

The renewed burst was viewed internally as a key response to Butler’s absence — and now another piece of Golden State’s short-term plans is again sidelined.

Curry’s Return Carries Added Weight in Warriors-Timberwolves Rematch

Curry’s availability carries added significance given the opponent and the context.

The Warriors are facing the Timberwolves in a rematch of last season’s Western Conference semifinals — a series Curry was forced to miss after exiting Game 1 with a hamstring injury. Golden State won that opener, then dropped four straight games without him.

Kuminga shouldered much of the scoring load in Curry’s absence, averaging 20.8 points in the series while battling Anthony Edwards, but the Warriors lacked the offensive gravity needed to extend the matchup.

Curry said during exit interviews that he was close to returning had the series gone longer.

“Everything was kind of aligned for Game 6,” Curry said during his exit interview. “I was pretty optimistic… but it’s the great what-if.”

All-NBA Implications and Extended Rest Aid Curry’s Return

Had Curry been ruled out Sunday, it would have marked his 11th missed game of the season — inching him closer to the league’s minimum threshold for All-NBA eligibility.

Instead, the 37-year-old enters the matchup still performing at an elite level, averaging 27.4 points and 4.9 assists while leading the NBA with 4.6 made three-pointers per game.

Curry also benefited from an extra day of recovery after the game was postponed from Saturday to Sunday following civil unrest in the area. The delay allowed Golden State to exercise caution before clearing him to play.

For a Warriors team navigating the fallout of multiple injuries, Curry’s availability offers rare stability — even as uncertainty continues to surround the rest of the rotation.
