Who Liverpool could sign in the remainder of this January transfer window - according to AI.
Premier League champions Liverpool have been far from where they want to be for much of this season despite an overhaul of Arne Slot’s squad in a record-breaking transfer window last summer.
The Reds broke the British transfer record twice in one window but their spending has failed to correlate with performances on the pitch, as a disastrous autumn left their title defence shattered before it had begun.
Though they will still feel that they have a strong chance of qualifying for the Champions League this season, issues remain in key positions such as centre-back, right-back and even on the right wing with Mohamed Salah’s future uncertain. Mid-season arrivals would, therefore, be much welcomed – but the Reds have already missed out on Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guéhi.
With that in mind, we asked AI to predict Liverpool’s transfer business over the remainder of the January window, with a series of very intriguing results...
Liverpool’s £90m transfer spend this January - according to AI
We decided to ask X’s Grok AI who it believes Liverpool will sign before the end of the January transfer window and its first call was to predict a stunning move for one of the most in-demand midfielders in the country in Adam Wharton.
Liverpool are predicted by AI to make a second major signing this January in the shape of versatile Bayern Munich defender Hiroki Ito. The 26-year-old recently returned from an extended period out with a metatarsal fracture and is a back-up option at the Allianz at present, meaning that the Reds could swoop in a January move for the Japanese star.
Ito can play both at centre-back and full-back, meaning he could be the perfect remedy to the defensive issues the Reds are facing at present, with Conor Bradley out for the season and Ibrahima Konaté struggling for form with a lack of cover available. Ito could cost Liverpool just £20m-£30m, according to the AI, and would join up with fellow Japan international and former VfB Stuttgart team-mate Wataru Endo at Anfield.
Grok also acknowledges further ambitious rumours involving Liverpool at present, with £87m-rated RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, Wolves midfielder André and centre-back trio Micky van de Ven, Nico Schlotterbeck and Alessandro Bastoni all mentioned as options for next summer – but unlikely to go ahead in this window, claims the AI.
One first-team departure from Anfield in AI prediction
In terms of exits, it is unlikely to be a big month of movement for Liverpool following incomings of close to £200m last summer. The AI predicted one first-team departure, though, in the shape of winger Federico Chiesa.
The Italian has seen more opportunities this season than last and has largely made important contributions when called upon, but just one start in the Premier League has seen transfer links with a return to Serie A persist. The AI predicts Chiesa to secure a return to former club Juventus this month, for a transfer fee worth around the £13m-£20m range due to a desire to generate funds instead of sanctioning a loan deal.
Otherwise, no core sales are predicted this month – though there may be further departures on loan or low-cost deals for fringe players, such as Calvin Ramsay, with the AI also citing the exit of James Norris to Shelbourne on a permanent basis earlier this month.
