EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool hold fresh talks for Premier League star

The 2025 summer transfer window will go down as the most dramatic in Liverpool’s history.

Under Arne Slot, the club abandoned years of cautious spending and went all in.

The Reds smashed the English transfer record twice, signing Florian Wirtz for £116m and Alexander Isak for £125m. Alongside Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong, Anfield became the centre of attention across Europe.

Yet, despite the noise, the results have not fully matched the investment. Liverpool have struggled recently, despite some rare positive performances.

The Reds currently sit 4th in the Premier League, already more than 10 points behind leaders Arsenal. Champions League qualification will now be a battle, and forget about Liverpool defending their title.

Slot’s side have won 7 of their first 19 league games, drawn 6, and lost 6. They have also conceded 26 goals, more than any team in the current top four.

While European victories over Marseille and Inter have lifted morale, league form has been inconsistent, and performances have often lacked control.

Inside the club, there is a growing feeling that the squad is still unbalanced.

As the January 2026 window closes, Liverpool have continued to “future-proofing” the team.

Ryan Gravenberch has adapted well in the holding role, but the club remains unconvinced this is a long-term solution.

Andy Robertson set to stay at Liverpool

Liverpool lost out on Marc Guehi to Manchester City despite courting him for a long time. Wataru Endo’s future is uncertain and Andy Robertson was linked with a shock move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Paul Joyce has now ruled that potential move out amidst the injury crisis at Anfield.

Behind the scenes, Liverpool’s recruitment staff have been working non-stop.

Liverpool hold Adam Wharton talks

And DaveOCKOP.com can now exclusively reveal that the club has held fresh talks for their top midfield target.

The 21-year-old Crystal Palace and England midfielder Adam Wharton has seen his stock rise rapidly since his £18m move from Blackburn.

Manchester United and Real Madrid are both monitoring him closely, according to reports.

However, we exclusively revealed last year that Wharton is drawn to Liverpool’s “solid long-term project” and views Anfield as his preferred destination.

Wharton has been the heartbeat of a Palace side that lifted both the FA Cup and Community Shield.

His numbers show clearly why Arne Slot is pushing hard for the deal.

Wharton has already made 20 Premier League starts this season and has been one of the most consistent midfielders in the division.

He completed 80.2% of his passes and ranks in the 90th percentile for progressive passes, showing his ability to move the ball forward under pressure.

Defensively, he brings the bite Liverpool have been missing.

He has won over 90 duels and made 49 tackles this campaign, underlining his work rate and positional discipline. But he is not just a destroyer.

From deep areas, Wharton has created 26 chances and supplied eight big chances, numbers that are rare for a defensive midfielder.

For Liverpool, this is not just another signing. This is about fixing what the summer spending could not.

Fresh talks have taken place recently with Liverpool now confident that Wharton could end up at Anfield. Curtis Jones’ future is up in the air, we exclusively revealed this week that Tottenham still maintain an interest in the local star despite signing Conor Gallagher.
