Ex-Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns speaks up on latest fatal shooting by ICE

The former Minnesota franchise star called for accountability after the fatal death of Alex Pretti.

In the wake of the ongoing uproar across the United States following the death of Alex Pretti at the hands of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, Karl-Anthony Towns has finally broken his silence.

On X (formerly Twitter), the former Minnesota Timberwolves star expressed sympathies with the family of victims and the people of Minneapolis. He also called for accountability against the agents who committed the fatal shooting incident.

"What is happening in the Twin Cities and the Great North Star State is heartbreaking to witness," he said. "These events have cost lives and shaken families — and we must call for accountability, transparency, and protections for all people. This moment demands that we reflect honestly on what our values truly are. My thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with the families of Renée Good and Alex Pretti.

"I stand with the people of Minnesota."

Towns played nine seasons as a Timberwolf after being drafted as the top overall pick of the 2014 NBA Draft by Minnesota. He was traded to the New York Knicks in 2024.
