Robert Williams could play against Celtics for 1st time since trade

Robert Williams III hasn’t played against the Celtics since being traded, but that could change for Monday’s game in Boston. Williams is listed as questionable on the Blazers injury report with left knee injury management ahead of the 8 p.m. Monday game.

Deni Avdija (lower back strain) is also questionable for the Celtics game as he enjoys a breakout season. Scoot Henderson (hamstring), Damian Lillard (Achilles), Kris Murray (lumbar), Duop Reath (right foot), Matisse Thybulle (knee) and Blake Wesley (foot) are all out.

Notably, former Celtics guard Jrue Holiday will be available. He missed the Celtics’ loss to the Blazers back in December because he was sidelined with a calf strain. But Holiday has been back playing for the Blazers, who are 23-23 on the year. Holiday’s been an important piece for Portland.

On the Celtics’ side, Neemias Queta is questionable with an illness. Jayson Tatum (Achilles) and Josh Minott (ankle) continue to be out. Queta’s been dealing with the illness in recent games. That has allowed two-way big man Amari Williams to get more opportunities, including his first career NBA start in the loss to the Bulls on Saturday.

The Celtics traded Williams to the Blazers ahead of the 2023-24 season in the first Holiday trade. He’s dealt with injury issues ever since then, though he’s played in 31 games this season. Williams is a potential trade candidate ahead of the deadline, and the C’s have been rumored to be interested in a potential reunion.
