Liverpool now 'confident' that a deal can be reached for 'outstanding' Premier League star

One of the Premier League’s most exciting talents could be a Liverpool player by deadline day.

Liverpool have been fairly meek with regard to transfer business this January.

Despite the team’s struggles, FSG aren’t making too many moves by the looks of things.

The real focus has been on outgoings, like Andy Robertson’s rumoured transfer to Spurs. That is, until a recent development with a player Liverpool have admired for some time.

Is Liverpool letting Andy Robertson join Tottenham a mistake? Who could replace the left-back?

Liverpool enter fresh talks for Adam Wharton

Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton has been on Liverpool’s radar for some time.

The 21-year-old is one of the most highly-regarded young midfielders in Europe — a versatile six who brings a control and class to possession play that has shades of Sergio Busquets.

The report claims Liverpool are making a fresh approach to Crystal Palace, who have been somewhat of a shop window this season.

This follows a Friday update that claimed Liverpool are readying an £80 million bid for Wharton, but the real story is that the move could be brought forward to this January window.

It would be a statement signing for Arne Slot, with Manchester United and Real Madrid also credited with interest.

Liverpool should push for Wharton in January

It has been common knowledge for a while now that Wharton will leave Palace next summer.

He is the hottest midfield property on the market, and someone who can have a starring role for the next decade wherever he ends up.

It would be better if Liverpool can get the move done in January, giving him sufficient time to integrate at Anfield and be ready to (hopefully) lead a title charge next season.

Liverpool’s midfield unit hasn’t set the world alight of late, and bringing in a player like Wharton could be the nudge they need to raise their level again. Or he could seize a starting role himself.
