Arsenal have been the latest side linked with a surprise move for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, and now boss Diego Simeone has responded after he was asked about the future of the striker.
The Argentine was never a guaranteed starter at Man City but still scored 36 goals across two seasons at the club and won the Champions League and FA Cup as well as the two league titles.
Alvarez has enjoyed a productive spell in the Spanish capital since his £82m move from Manchester City in 2024, scoring 29 goals during his first season at Atletico, and the 25-year-old Argentina international, who won two Premier League titles at the Etihad Stadium, has scored another 11 goals so far this season.
But according to the Daily Mail, ARSENAL have joined the growing list of clubs who are interested in signing Alvarez and although Madrid have so far shown no desire to sell Alvarez, it is claimed a summer move is possible if suitors are prepared to pay 100m euros (£87m).
Atleti manager Diego Simeone wasn’t particularly pleased when asked about a move, however, when speaking to the press. He responded: “Seriously? Are you seriously asking me that?
“The truth is that Julian Alvarez speaks for himself, because of the name he has, the authority he carries, and the career he’s built, right?”
IcFootballnews Says…
Alvarez has proven himself to be a top striker over in La Liga, it is a shock to see that he has been linked with a move back to the Premier League, it would be an even bigger shock to see a move actually happen in the summer.
ARSENAL do want to sign a striker, we are just not sure that Alvarez is the right forward to lead that Gunners attack.
