The January window has entered its finally stretch as the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool look to strengthen their squads ahead of the February 2 deadline. Arsenal has stepped up their interest in Julian Alvarez by holding talks over a possible £80million deal for Atletico Madrid forward, and are monitoring Real Madrid wonderkid Victor Valdepenas ahead of a possible double Spanish swoop.

Chelsea want to add a new midfielder and defender before next week, and are exploring hijacking Douglas Luiz’s loan deal with Nottingham Forest amid ongoing talks with Rennes for Jeremy Jacquet and interest in Mohamed Kader Meite. Manchester United also want Jacquet and Meite, and expect to miss out to the Blues for English wonderkid Yisa Alao. Aaron Anselmino’s loan spell at Borussia Dortmund has been cut short.

Tottenham’s move for Andy Robertson is in danger of collapse as Liverpool are struggling to find a replacement. Trent Alexander-Arnold has held talks with Manchester City over a shock move.

That's according to TEAMtalk, who report that the right-back currently remains determined to make a success of his Real Madrid move, but is keeping his options open.

City are said to be monitoring the situation, with Alexander-Arnold struggling to make an impact in Spain following his move last summer.

The right-back has started just five league games, and there is a frustration at how the season in panning out.

And City are making sure they are in pole position should the England man decide to leave.

Liverpool have ended talks with Tottenham over a deal to sell Andy Robertson.

Spurs made a surprise move for the full-back last week as under-pressure boss Thomas Frank sought to add some much-needed experience to his squad.

Liverpool listened to the approach in recognition of Robertson's contribution to the club in the last eight and a half years and the fact he is out of contract in the summer.

A deal was agreed in principle between all parties, which would have seen Robertson join Spurs on Thursday, following the conclusion of the Champions League league phase.

But now, according to widespread reports overnight, Liverpool’s have pulled the plug.

Liverpool need to recall Konstantinos Tsimikas from his Roma loan to let Robertson leave, and that has so far not been possible as the Italian side need a replacement.

There is some hope the deal could be resurrected, but time is running out.

Arsenal have Alvarez advantage

Arsenal’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez is progressing and they now sit in pole position to land the Atletico Madrid forward.

ESPN reported last week that Alvarez is a target for Mikel Arteta, and that talks were planned amid suggestions of a summer swoop.

And now Football Insider report that Atletico have confirmed their asking price to pry Alvarez away from the Metropolitano Stadium.

The former Man City man would cost €80million (£69.4m), and has 16 goal contributions in 28 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

Football Espana report that Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta will be key given his close relationship with Alvarez and previous ties to Atletico.

Man Utd ready to hijack Chelsea's Meite move

Manchester United are planning to hijack Chelsea’s interest Rennes striker Mohamed Kader Meite.

According to TEAMtalk, the 18-year-old currently being eyed up by those at Old Trafford, becoming the latest side to show interest Chelsea targete.

The striker has quickly emerged as an in-demand talent in France, and reportedly is being looked at by nine clubs, including Crystal Palace and Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.

Chelsea recall defender

Chelsea are recalling Aaron Anselmino from his loan at Borussia Dortmund, writes Dom Smith.

The Argentine impressed at the German club in the first half of the season and will now return to Chelsea.

The Blues are monitoring the centre-back market as they look to strengthen in that position. They are also open to market opportunities in other positions as the transfer window approaches its February 2 deadline.

Their first move on this front is now to recall 20-year-old Anselmino, Standard Sport understands.

Race for Rak-Sakyi intensifies

Celtic have dropped the ball in the race to sign Crystal Palace’s Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, as Stoke City make strides in the deal.

Palace is holding out for an £8million obligation to buy in any loan for Rak-Sakyi, with Stoke having the edge on the purchase.

This is the second time Celtic has pursued the winger, with their last bid in the summer window falling through.

Chelsea have reportedly triggered a recall for Aaron Anselmino as they consider their options in the January window, as reported by David Ornstein.

The midfielder, who is currently at Borussia Dortmund, has been on loan since August 2025 and could find himself back at Stamford Bridge sooner than he thought.

In seven months at the club, Anselmino has made six appearances for Dortmund, scoring once.

No new January Newcastle signings

Eddie Howe has confirmed that Newcastle will not pursue any new signings in the January transfer window after the club’s large investment during the summer window.

After signing Nick Woltemade, Jacob Ramsey, Anthony Elanga and Malick Thiaw in the summer, Howe said that Newcastle would focus on bringing the best out of their current squad.

Striker Rayan has verbally signed with Bournemouth £24.7m fixed fee, £5.6m add-ons, according to reports by Fabrizio Romano.

The 19-year-old Brazilian has allegedly flown to the UK this weekend for medical tests on Monday.

The contract, which has reportedly been verbally agreed, will run until June 2031.
