Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly agreed a deal in principle to sign Andy Robertson this winter window.
The Scotland captain, 31, has been a cornerstone of Jurgen Klopp’s era, making the prospect of him lining up in lilywhite almost unthinkable for Liverpool supporters. Spurs, searching for experience and leadership on the left side of defence, identified Robertson as a ready‑made solution and pushed ahead with negotiations ahead of the Champions League run‑in.
Robertson’s future at Anfield was already in doubt during the summer window, when Atletico Madrid showed strong interest before turning their attention elsewhere.
Milos Kerkez’s arrival has further clouded Robertson’s long-term prospects, with the Hungarian increasingly preferred as the 2025-26 campaign has unfolded. As Kerkez has nailed down the starting role, Robertson has slipped into more of a rotational berth with fewer minutes on the pitch.
Despite that, the veteran defender has still featured 22 times in all competitions this season, although only eight of those outings have come from the start.
Wide-spread reports have asserted that Tottenham have backed out of the deal as Liverpool are not sanctioning the exit of the Scot. Now Matt Law of the Telegraph has reported that although a deal was agreed a in principle for the transfer of Andy Robertson, it is hinged on whether Liverpool can recall Kostas Tsimikas:
“Tottenham had agreed a deal in principle with Liverpool for Robertson to join after Liverpool’s final CL game. Deal was dependent on Liverpool being able to recall Tsimikas which they haven’t been able to do yet as Roma need a replacement.”
Although Roma have confirmed they are in talks with the Anfield club about a potential return of Tsimikas, it seems that one week left of the transfer window is not enough time for both of the deals.
