Roma have confirmed talks with Liverpool regarding Kostas Tsimikas’ return despite Andy Robertson now potentially staying at the club. The Reds were in the position of possibly bidding farewell to their long-serving left-back amid talks with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
It was suggested that a deal had been agreed in principle between the two clubs, with the deal expected to go through after the conclusion of the Champions League group stages. However, that depended on Liverpool bolstering their left-back options, with Tsimikas seen as a potential option.
The Greek defender is currently in the middle of a season-long loan deal with Italian giants Roma. And director Frederic Massara has since confirmed that talks are ongoing.
“They are all situations that are evolving, we are in a dialogue with Liverpool and we’ll see how that evolves over the next few days,” Massara said.
Robertson however is now set to stay at Anfield, with any deal having been cancelled and it remains to be seen whether the Reds continue in their attempts to recall Tsimikas. Regardless, it appears that boss Arne Slot has got his wish when it comes to the Scottish defender, having expressed his desire to keep him at the club.
Speaking after the weekend’s defeat to Bournemouth, he said: “I think I need all my players. Robbo had to come in at half-time, in my opinion. I always knew that for Milos (Kerkez), another 90 minutes against a very intense Bournemouth side was not a possibility for him, so I knew I would have to bring (Robertson) in.
“I had already had one substitution in the first-half, then you only have two moments left, so I thought ‘let’s bring Robbo in at half-time to make sure Milos stays available for the rest of the season’.
“There’s a lot of games to be played with the players available. I have to manage that as well. The last thing we could need right now is another injury.”

Meanwhile, captain Virgil van Dijk agreed with Slot’s wish to keep Robertson at the club. He said: "He's my vice-captain. Robbo is a very important member of our team and I want him to stay but whatever happens, let's see."
Liverpool are back in action in midweek as they take on Qarabag in their final Champions League group stage game before they welcome Newcastle to St James’ Park at the weekend.
