Chelsea set to recall loaned defender as Rosenior eyes top-four finish

Chelsea are recalling one of their loaned players back to Stamford Bridge, according to reports.

The 20-year-old was sent out on loan to Borussia Dortmund for the season, in a bid to give him some experience playing first-team football for a top side.

But Aaron Anselmino’s season has been plagued by a muscle injury, followed by a hamstring injury in December, and he only returned to the pitch last weekend, making a 21-minute cameo off the bench in a 3-0 win over Union Berlin.

Overall, Anselmino has made 10 appearances for Dortmund this season, playing a full 90 minutes on four occasion.

Now, multiple outlets have reported that he will be recalled to Stamford Bridge before the end of the January transfer window.

Chelsea included a break clause into Anselmino’s contract with Dortmund, allowing them to terminate his loan at their discretion.

Bringing the centre-back home will bolster the Blues’ defensive options for the second half of the season, as new manager Liam Rosenior pushes for a top-four finish. Chelsea do already have a fairly strong back line, with only Tosin Adarabioyo and Levi Colwill sidelined with long-term injuries.
