Barcelona set to secure in-form midfielder’s contract with improved salary soon – Romano

Fermin Lopez has quietly been enjoying a very good season for FC Barcelona this term, chipping in with crucial contributions in the attacking third.

In 25 matches across all competitions, the 22-year-old Spaniard has already racked up ten goals and ten assists each, emerging as a key player for Hansi Flick.

Now ahead of Dani Olmo in the pecking order for the No. 10 position, Fermin is a vital cog in the team, and Barcelona intend to reward him for his performances with a new contract.

Talks well underway

Indeed, according to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are set to seal the contract renewal of Fermin Lopez with an improved salary in the coming days, with talks already well underway.

The Spanish international’s current contract with the club runs until the summer of 2029, following his renewal in October 2024.

But, considering how he has grown in stature within the team, the Blaugrana intend to offer him a new deal with a salary matching his current level, while tying down his long-term future.

After all, Fermin was a subject of strong interest from Chelsea during the summer transfer window last year, and there remains a possibility that they could revisit that interest later this year.

Fermin, for his part, has made it clear that he sees his long-term future at Barcelona, and the renewal, with a higher pay package, will only make it binding.

Talks are ongoing between the relevant parties, and it is expected that an agreement will be finalised soon.

The new deal is expected to run until 2031, with a 50% hike in his salary.
