Manchester City have been linked with this former Liverpool star ahead of the summer transfer window

Former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is making headlines once again as he finds himself in the middle of a mega transfer storm.

Despite pushing for his move to Real Madrid less than nine months ago, the two-time Premier League winner is already being linked with a dramatic exit. Eye-popping reports from Spain have recently claimed that Alexander-Arnold has been instructed to find a new club.

Other outlets have debunked this rumour but it has done little to extinguish the rising chatter surrounding the right-back on the rumour mill. With rival clubs now getting wind of potential unrest at Real Madrid, interest is being shown in Alexander-Arnold.

Man City interested in signing Trent Alexander-Arnold

According to TEAMtalk, Manchester City are one of the clubs reportedly ‘keeping tabs’ on Alexander-Arnold this year. The Premier League title challengers have shown interest as ‘uncertainty continues to grow’ over the ex-Liverpool star’s future.

City have not made any sort of formal approach for Alexander-Arnold so far, but they are understood to be ‘assessing the situation carefully’. Intermediaries have started exploring potential options for the 27-year-old and have ‘held talks’ with the Manchester club.

Man City are on the market for a new right-back and are scoping out their options for the summer transfer window. Whether Alexander-Arnold is for sale or not still remains to be seen but the report states that ‘a move for him will be expensive’.

Will Trent Alexander-Arnold leave Real Madrid?

Alexander-Arnold ruffled feathers with his move away from Liverpool last year. After winning the league for a second time with his boyhood club, he pushed for a move to Real Madrid, which massively divided the Reds fanbase.

He bid farewell to the club after rising through their youth ranks and becoming a club icon. Alexander-Arnold particularly stamped his name in Anfield folklore after his unforgettable ‘corner taken quickly’ moment against Barcelona, which led to Liverpool winning the Champions League in 2019.

However, since his arrival in the Spanish capital, things haven’t unfolded how he might’ve imagined. Alexander-Arnold has made just five La Liga starts this season and two separate injury issues have dented his maiden season.

The right-back is currently side-lined now with a thigh injury and is yet to make an appearance so far in 2026.

Despite his inconsistent run of appearances with Madrid in his maiden season, Alexander-Arnold ‘remains determined’ to fight for his place at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, there is said to be frustration bubbling behind the scenes due to how his first season in the famous white strip has unfolded.
