David Beckham didn’t shy away from his own social media post after Manchester United beat Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Arsenal fell to a painful 3-2 defeat to Premier League rivals Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon and Red Devils legend David Beckham didn’t hesitate to celebrate the result.

Michael Carrick’s side came back from 1-0 down to be leading 2-1 going into the final 10 minutes before a Mikel Merino goal appeared to have salvaged a point for the hosts. However, a Matheus Cunha strike in the 87th minute ensure that all three points were taken back up north.

The Gunners remain top of the table but are now just four points ahead of Manchester City, with Manchester United now in fourth and 12 points off the leaders. It was a big result for the Red Devils after a tumultuous start to the year and pleased Beckham.

David Beckham celebrated Manchester United victory

The former England international has found his name in the headlines this week after seeing eldest son Brooklyn Beckham publicly distance himself from his parents. The 26-year-old denounced his family last week in a statement which centred on a rift between his wife Nicola Peltz and the Beckhams.

David appeared keen to show off his good relationship with second son Romeo after the fixture on Sunday, with the middle Beckham son supporting Arsenal. After Manchester United picked up the win, Beckham took to social media and posted a vintage photo of himself celebrating in his Red Devils days. He included the caption, ‘You ok Romeo??’.

Beckham then uploaded another picture of himself back in the day and wrote: “As the Boss would say , ‘squeaky Bum time’. The Gap is getting smaller.”

Romeo was more than happy to play along with the jibe. The Arsenal fan shared a photo of the Premier League table on his own story and tagged his dad with the caption: “@davidbeckham don’t get too gassed. Mind the gap.”

Why Romeo Beckham is an Arsenal fan

Despite his father’s allegiances, Romeo is an outspoken fan of the Gunners. The 23-year-old came through the youth academy at Arsenal before then moving to Inter Miami and eventually having a short spell with the Brentford B side.

In an old interview with Rio Ferdinand, Beckham explained how Romeo became an Arsenal fan. He said: “He was really young and we were in London one Friday and he was like, ‘Dad let’s go to a game this weekend.’

"So I started to look at the fixtures and I was like ‘uh, Arsenal are at home’. So I thought, do you know what, they’re always really nice to me when I go down to watch United and Arsenal, and I thought okay, they’ll look after us, there won’t be any hassle getting in.

"No hassle, sat there. So we walked in, amazing seats. Sat in the director’s box. Lunch was unbelievable before the game - it was like wagyu, full on, everything. So we walk in, I’m sat there and then Arsene walks in the room and he comes straight over to the table, introduces himself to Romeo, and he says ‘come with me son’.

“So he takes him down to the changing room, meets all the players, gives him a shirt, signed, takes him onto the pitch, walks him back up to the table and then gives him an Arsenal cashmere scarf, and that was it. It was done. I’ve tried to change his mind since but impossible.”
