Liverpool have recalled Lewis Koumas from his loan spell at Birmingham City.

Koumas was left out of Blues’ squad for Saturday’s 1-1 draw with his former loan club Stoke City and it has now been confirmed that he has returned to Liverpool.

The winger was originally expected to be recalled in early January but a goal against Coventry City and injuries handed him an extended run in the starting XI.

Liverpool, Blues and Koumas therefore allowed the loan to run once an agreement was struck to extend the recall window beyond January 15.

Blues have since signed Ibrahim Osman on loan from Brighton and Chris Davies is chasing another winger before the transfer window closes. Alaves wide man Carlos Vicente is believed to be on Blues’ radar.

Osman’s arrival essentially acted as the green light for Koumas to return to Liverpool.

The 20-year-old leaves Blues having played 25 matches in the first half of the season, albeit only nine starts, and contributed one goal.
