Journalist shares 'interesting' thing he's heard from Liverpool insiders about Andy Robertson sale

Liverpool supporters were relieved on Sunday evening after being told that Andy Robertson’s transfer to Tottenham had been cancelled.

Surprise news broke on Friday to suggest that the legendary left-back was on the verge of a mid-season move to Spurs.

Robertson then played 45 minutes against Bournemouth on Saturday in what could potentially have been his final appearance for Liverpool.

Sunday brought a reprieve, though, and reports outlined that after some issues in bringing Kostas Tsimikas back from a loan at Roma, Robertson will be staying at Liverpool.

According to journalist David Lynch, however, that may not be the end of the story. With one week to go before the transfer window closes, insiders at Liverpool are still hinting that Robertson may not be as safe as initially thought.

Andy Robertson could still leave Liverpool

Liverpool jumping through hoops to swap Robertson for Tsimikas this summer makes little sense in the eyes of supporters.

The Scotland captain clearly wants to be fit and ready for this summer’s World Cup and feels he needs to leave in order to do that, but that should not matter to Liverpool. Letting him go weakens them, and they do not need that right now.

Sunday’s news made it seem as though Liverpool had seen sense in that regard, but speaking to Anfield Index, Lynch suggests that might not be the case after all. Robertson could still go.

“It doesn’t feel like Liverpool are completely ruling it out at the moment, so that’s kind of interesting,” he said.

“It seems at the moment that it’s gone quiet, but let’s see. Nobody at Liverpool ruling that one out yet. We’ll see if they’re able to do something with Kostas and maybe they go through with it.”

Liverpool risk angering supporters even more

If Liverpool do decide to sell Robertson in the final week of the window, a lot of supporters are going to be very angry.

The 31-year-old is clearly the main driver behind the move, but that does not mean Liverpool need to go along with it.

The reality is that the club badly need Robertson to step up and do his job as vice-captain right now, and it seems bizarre that they would even entertain a sale.

If it does go through, especially to a Premier League rival in Spurs, fans will have a right to question what exactly Liverpool are playing at.

As for Robertson himself, if he is continuing to push this even after the Reds initially attempt to put the blockers on, perhaps he is not as big of a legend as many supporters thought.
